I’m going to be honest here: I initially had so many ideas as to how this post is going to be like: “17 Things I learnt in 2017”, “8 Things to Achieve in 2018” bla bla bla, but I cannot come up with 17 things, not even 8 things. I felt like I had to summarize how my 2017 was like, and how I wanted my 2018 to be. Even though it’s the end of January already (like wut time flies), but I feel like I should do this for gohforit as well.
Well, to put it simply, 2017 was one of the best years I ever had. Serious. It was a year I found myself doing things I never thought I would ever do. It was a year I stepped out of my comfort zone, and I really pursued what I really what I wanted to do. It was a year I found friends from different countries, and a year where I learnt that opportunities are out there and we just had to grab them! It was a year I found myself going closer to the end goal I had in mind and a year where I thought to myself, “this is possible after all!” Most importantly, it was a year I managed to find myself and what I really loved.
But before April, I did some things that were beyond my imagination as well, like meeting Koreans from online language exchange apps, and having conversations in Korean with them, being unafraid to speak in Korean is something… very nerve-wrecking indeed. These friends that I met were the ones who showed me around when I went for my first solo-trip to Korea, driving me around Boseong and showing me around Damyang etc. They extended hospitality beyond what I imagined, just because I availed myself when they were in Singapore to show them around the city and just simply being a friend.
I found myself amazed by my own city, and how much it has to offer by bringing foreigners around. I realized I had so much more to learn about my own country’s culture and how much I don’t know about my own country. It was an eye-opening experience.
Even in the midst of all these, I finished my freshmen year in May and celebrated it by going for the solo trip to Korea! Freshmen year, oh wow, what a journey. School taught me so many things, allowed me to meet so many people, and that university is not a place just about grades, it is so much more beyond the degree.
Summer began with the trip to Korea (which I have yet to finish the blog post series I am so sorry) but you can read all about it here, here, here and here. After that was a dreaded journey back to Singapore where I basically rotted my life away (justkidding) by doing a few part-time event jobs and helping out in school events. It was too boring so I decided to take a trip to Thailand, Bangkok with a few close friends before starting my Sophomore year! Sophomore year started in August and this was when the best time of my life started.
Because I missed my friends so much, I flew to Korea again, solo, for the second time this year and spent the last few days of 2017 in Korea, and the first few days of 2018 in Korea. (just kidding I planned this trip long ago it was not a last minute thing hee). I managed to revisit some of my favourite spots in Seoul, and this time I had company for dinner!! We drank, alot, as expected of Korea, but it was more of a spending-time-with-friends-trip instead of visiting tourist attractions. It felt very different from my solo trip in May, because that was a lot of tourist attraction visiting.
2017 was definitely an amazing year, full of adventures! I can’t wait for 2018 because it started on such a great note! I have so many exciting plans coming up and I can’t wait to show you guys everything! I also apologize for not updating the blog so much but I am going to try my best!!
