Hi everybody! Welcome back to the blog! I’m sure everybody knows about AHA/BHA right? Especially you skincare junkies, AHA/BHA is probably a staple in your skincare routine! Today, I’m going to introduce a type of AHA to you guys, and it’s Mandelic Acid!
You might be wondering why I put a picture of almonds, that’s because Mandelic Acid is extracted from bitter almonds! It is a type of AHA, which is a chemical exfoliant. Compared to other types of AHA, Mandelic Acid is relatively mild due to its large molecular size. In case you didn’t know, glycolic acid (a popular type of AHA) contains 2 carbon molecules while mandelic acid contains 8!
Because of its size, mandelic acid is absorbed slower compared to the other AHAs, which makes it less irritating to the skin, hence it is perfect for people with sensitive skin! This also means that you can use mandelic acid on a daily basis! Mandelic acid is bactericidal and helps to regulate sebaceous gland, which makes it great for people with acne!
Apart from its gentle exfoliating properties, it is also great for acne, like I mentioned above! With its exfoliating properties, it will help to improve skin tone and texture!
In a study done to evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of mandelic acid-containing cosmetics, participants who used a 5% mandelic acid containing cream notices a huge difference in their skin condition with a reduction in the number of pustules (small bumps on the skin that contain fluid or pus), inflammatory nodules (slightly elevated lesions on or in the skin), and comedones (small bumps caused by blockage of pores).
The exact percentage of reduction of pustules is actually 60%! 88% of the participants actually would like to use the product again! From this, we can actually really see the bactericidal properties of mandelic acid working alongside with its exfoliating properties to get rid of those bumps!
I’m glad you asked! (omg so cringey haha 😅) I have actually been using Mandelic Acid for 1 month, almost every day because I think my skin loves this product. And this product is none other than By Wishtrend’s Mandelic Acid 5% Skin Prep Water! Wishtrend actually sent me this product and I’m glad they did! I love this so much! Thank you Wishtrend 🙆♂️
As the name suggests, this product preps your skin in a way. I use this first and I follow up with a toner. Apart from Mandelic Acid, it also contains beta-glucan and centella asiatica, which are very hydrating ingredients, so you don’t have to worry when using it!
Upon application, it feels like water. Until I felt the stinging on a few of my troubled spots, then I realized… oh it indeed is an acid. 😂 But the texture of this product is really like water, super lightweight! I would say it’s okay for sensitive skin, but the stinging really hurt for a while, but for better skin, I endured it!! 💪🏻
How this has changed my skin ㅡ I wake up to smoother skin. At first glance, you can’t really tell how it helps your skin, but as days go by, you’ll realize how smooth your skin feels when you brush it accidentally. Also, I feel that acne heals faster and spots generally fade away faster too! I’m not sure if this product is the reason why my sebum secretion seems better regulated in the day because I find my skin excreting less oil after a long day. I guess I’ll have to credit this product a bit for that.
Overall, this product really changes my skin care and I fell in love (more) with By Wishtrend! I’m currently using two of their products in my night time skin care and my skin loves it! If you’re wondering what’s the other product, it’s the By Wishtrend’s Vitamin 75 Maximizing Cream!
The Mandelic Acid 5% Skin Prep Water is available on Wishtrend’s website, this link right here! I always share the coupons available for you to get a discount, and for August, it’s ‘WISH3AUG‘ for $3 off, no min. order! That is how I fell in love with the Vitamin Cream!
Thank you guys for reading! I hope you enjoyed this short introduction to mandelic acid and a review of By Wishtrend’s Mandelic Acid Skin Prep Water! Since I’m a science student, I thought it’ll be fun to include research findings in my reviews as well! Maybe I shall slowly incorporate more of these in my reviews? See you guys in my next post on Saturday! Hint: End of the Month ritual post!
