Situated in a quiet and ageing neighbourhood, I would not have expected such a modern and aesthetically pleasing cafe when I first heard of the Tastemaker store. The elderly would walk past the glass windows turning their heads and wonder what store is this, which was quite amusing to me. But yet, this contrast of generations is what makes this place interesting.
It was around 15 mins to noon, and the place was relatively empty, with one or two customers grabbing a cup of coffee to go. It was quiet and seemed perfect for some alone time. I went there in hopes of finding a new place to sit down and get some work done, and I definitely managed to be productive.
Lots of Instagram-worthy corners in this cafe, and I absolutely love the interior of this place. The coffee was good, but maybe not the waffles, I’ll explain below.
I ordered the Iced Mocha while my friend, Kristie, ordered a Matcha Latte. I had a sip of the matcha latte and I really liked it! Tasted slightly similar to the Starbucks version, but the milky taste is not overpowering. I really can’t stand the taste of milk, which is why I always pair my matcha with soy milk, unfortunately, I think the Tastemaker does not provide this option.
On the other hand, I really liked my Iced Mocha, it tasted good even after an hour or so, the melting ice did not dilute the flavour whatsoever, so it’s a great drink for those who intend to stay for a few hours. Highly recommend!
I had the waffles, the parts that weren’t covered by the egg were crispy but had a somewhat oily feeling?? (don’t know how to explain lol) But the parts that were covered by the egg, it was so soggy and soft, I really didn’t like that. Perhaps you could ask them to serve the eggs and waffles separately?
The Earl Grey Pound Cake was delicious though. Earl Grey flavour on point. I loved the coating on top of the cake!
Overall, a cafe with great ambience but could work better on the waffles. Their drinks are right on point though. Would recommend coming on a weekday because I think cafes are generally packed on weekends. Did I mention, they’re open on public holidays too!
