To my surprise, Telok Ayer is such a mix of past and present. You have shophouses lining the streets, temples even! Yet you see a backdrop of modern buildings and offices. How beautifully contradicting, probably something like Bukchon Hanok Village, where you get to see Seoul’s modern skyline amongst the traditional hanoks..
Situated in a quiet and ageing neighbourhood, I would not have expected such a modern and aesthetically pleasing cafe when I first heard of the Tastemaker store. The elderly would walk past the glass windows turning their heads and wonder what store is this, which was quite amusing to me. But yet, this contrast of generations is what makes this place interesting.
